Join us Friday, October 18, at 7:00 PM at New Dominion Bookshop (404 E Main St.) for an evening with short story writer Emily W. Pease, novelist Micheline Aharonian Marcom, and musician Will Marsh. This event will be free and open to the public.
Emily W. Pease is the author of the story collection Let Me Out Here, which won the 2018 C. Michael Curtis Short Story Book Prize from Hub City Press. Her stories have appeared in Witness, The Missouri Review (Editors Prize in Fiction), The Georgia Review, Shenandoah (including the Bevel Summers Prize), Crazyhorse (Crazyshorts! Prize), Alaska Quarterly Review, and Narrative. After teaching for many years at the College of William & Mary, she now teaches writing to veterans through the Armed Services Arts Partnership, where she also serves as a member of their arts council. She is currently beginning a novel about logging the last forests of West Virginia. She lives in Williamsburg, VA.
Micheline Aharonian Marcom has published six novels and has received fellowships and awards from the Lannan Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, and the US Artists’ Foundation. Her seventh novel, The New American, about a DREAMer who is deported to Guatemala and makes his way back home to California, will be published by Simon and Schuster next year. Marcom is the founder and creative director of The New American Story Project (NASP), a digital storytelling project exploring the forces of migration and the lives of new Americans. She is a professor of creative writing at the University of Virginia.
Will Marsh started his band, Gold Connections, at the College of William and Mary, where longtime friend Will Toledo (Car Seat Headrest) produced and recorded Marsh’s debut, self-titled EP, which was released in 2017 on Fat Possum Records. After support tours with Car Seat Headrest, opener slots with bands such as The Districts and Futurebirds, and even a tour through Europe culminating with a showing at the esteemed Primavera Club Festival, Gold Connections followed up their scrappy debut EP with two new releases that adventured into hi-hi, 2018’s Popular Fiction LP and 2019’s Like A Shadow. With a new sound in hand and the promise of more growth to come, the future shines bright for Will Marsh and Gold Connections.
